How to Take a Perfect Passport Photo at Home

Published on October 25, 2025

Taking a passport photo at home is easier than you think. With modern smartphones and our free editing tool, you can skip the expensive photo studio.

1. Lighting is Key

Stand facing a window. Natural light is the best light. Avoid direct sunlight which causes harsh shadows. You want soft, even light across your face.

2. Background

Find a plain white or off-white wall. If you don't have one, you can hang a white sheet. Make sure it's smooth.

3. Camera Position

The camera should be at eye level. Stand about 1-1.5 meters away from the camera. Leave enough space above your head.

4. Use DocAdjust

Once you have your photo, upload it to DocAdjust. Use our crop tool to set the correct aspect ratio (e.g., 35x45mm) and adjust the brightness if needed.

Remember, no glasses, keep a neutral expression, and look directly at the camera.
